SPIRIT LAKE AIRPORT RUNWAY/TAXIWAY REHABILITATION

Project Description
This project was designed in the fall of 2009/winter of 2010 and constructed in 2010. Improvements included rehabilitation of an existing runway and taxiway that was 43 years old. There was severe longitudinal and transverse cracking in the existing asphalt surface. The challenge of the project was finding the best design to rehabilitate the pavement with limited funding. Improvements included placing Petro-Tac geotextile fabric over the existing cracks and overlaying the runway and taxiway with 2″ of Hot Mix Asphalt. The project was jointly funded by the Spirit Lake Airport Commission and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
