Project Description
Final completion of construction occurred in 2014. The project received an award from the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities for the outstanding performance related to protecting and improving urban water quality at the 2014 Iowa Stormwater Conference. The project involved a 3-stage storm water management strategy that included low impact development practices, a new storm sewer system, and a storm water wetland. The low impact development improvements included bio retention cells, permeable pavers, and a new constructed wetland. The project also involved the re-alignment of Zenith Avenue, construction of two new parking lots, a new entrance, construction of new sidewalks, and construction of new utilities for the expansion of the Lakes Regional Healthcare building. The Low Impact Development improvements were partially funded through a clean water grant. The project partners included Lakes Regional Healthcare, the Dickinson County Clean Water Alliance, and the City of Spirit Lake.
