CONSTRUCTION

Project Description​

Beck Engineering, Inc. partnered with the City of Okoboji to make a variety of improvements to Speier Park in Okoboji. Projects include 4 new pickleball courts adjacent to the existing tennis courts, parking lot resurfacing, drainage improvements, and a new inclusive playground.

The pickelball courts were designed in 2019, constructed in 2020, and involved constructing post-tensioned concrete courts, sidewalks, court surfacing, fencing, nets and posts, and other related items.  The project had a construction cost of approximately $190,000.

Parking lot resurfacing, an asphalt overlay, was completed in 2022 for a total construction cost of appromately $140,000. Drainage improvements, including regrading and new storm sewer, was completed in 2023 for a total construction cost of approimately $65,000.

The playground was designed in 2023 and constructed in 2024. The playground is aviation themed, with ties to the neighboring municipal airport, and features unique play pieces selected for their play value for a variety of ages and abilities. Accessible surfaces – poured-in-place rubber and engineered wood fiber – allow access to each piece of equipment from a perimeter sidewalk. The project had a construction cost of approximately $525,000.
