CITY OF OKOBOJI PCC PAVING/LOW IMPACT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

AS-BUILT

BIORETENTION CELL
Project Description
This project was completed in 2007 and is the only completed total environmental retrofit of an existing neighborhood in the State of Iowa. The retrofit was for Nichols Avenue, Tarzan Street, Park View Avenue, Hollingsworth Street, and Echo Bay Avenue north of The Inn in Okoboji. The project involved a total reconstruction of over 3600 feet of street, construction of 17 Bioretention Cells, and 3 Stabili-Grid rock chamber parking areas. Approximately 20 easements were obtained from property owners for construction of the LID principles. The project was challenging due to narrow right-of-way widths, the need for easements on private property, and constructing the project through an existing neighborhood. The project was successfully staged to provide minimal disruption to adjacent homeowners.
*This project received an Award for Excellence for the Innovative Design of Stormwater Management Practices used in Local Projects at the 2008 Iowa Stormwater Conference.
